Group discussion questions:

Do you have any goals for this year or anything that you hope accomplish?
What area in life do you feel pressure to conform to society that goes against your Christian beliefs?
Do you think people recognize you as a Christian by your love? If yes, how and if no, how can you be more loving?

Introduction:

Do you ever ask yourself…I am a Christian, now what? Do you ever ask or what does God want from me?
How does He want me to live?
Have you ever met someone and they seem completely different than most people?
(Story about this guy noticed something different about me)
When I was driving up here, I was reflecting on a time when we’re getting ready to move and I was basically selling everything we had

1. Do not be conformed to this world

Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind
Christians are called to be different, we’re called to follow the example of Christ
The worlds philosophy or society is completely different than the example of Christ has left for us to follow

1.1 (V9-21) Let love be genuine

Love is action, not always a feeling

2. The new commandment

John 13:34 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.”
What does the word commandment mean to you? (Not optional)
The Gr. word for “New” implies freshness
You’re called to love people as Christ has loved you
He gave His life for you
John 13:35 “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Our love is an identifying characteristic that we belong to Christ

3. Biblical definition of Love

1 Corinthians 13:4–7 “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
